Paul Boag’s nine truths for university websites

A recent article by Paul Boag – 10 Harsh Truths About Corporate Websites – contains some great advice for university web strategy. The most important I think are ‘You need a separate web division’, ‘Periodic redesign is not enough’, ‘You’re not getting value from your web team’ and ‘A CMS is not a silver bullet’.

I’ve got to disagree with the final truth though – ‘You have too much content’. A lot of sites have too much text, unnecessary content, etc, but there’s only the tiniest fraction of potential usable content being put online currently.
